Scientists working on the Mars Phoenix Lander mission said preliminary analysis by the lander’s instruments on a sample of soil scooped up by its robotic arm had shown it to be much more alkaline than expected.

Great News that the lander mission has delivered for us.
This small but very vital piece of information must have run a scientists imagination wild as it has done to me.
Turning up a sterile, toxic soil would have doomed the very purposed of the multi million dollar mission
